Visualising the Foreign Domestic Work Permit as a trust relationship, this small zine fits in a hand or a pocket like a passport or an identity card. With writings, illustrations and a diagram, this zine presents the perspectives of the employer and the Domestic Worker in tandem, in an effort to acknowledge the negotiations and compromises required from both parties.
In addition to the zine, the kitchen towels visualise the internal structures and processes of this industry. In the Employment Route Map (white), it shows how Domestic Workers begin with searching for a higher income than what they can find at home, till it brings them to training centers and finally, into the homes of employers. On the Household Duties Map (purple), there is a diagram visualising the tasks that fall inside the described job scope of Domestic Workers. Outside the diagram falls various incidences where Domestic Workers had been tasked with “grey area” duties. The Employment Agreement Map (pink) is a template for an employment contract between Domestic Workers and employers, with annotations reminding parties that the worker will not be covered under the Employment Act, which regulates work hours and salary.
